Three Towers Hike
On Saturday 4th April four teams of three people from our group participated in the Three Towers hike which is a round tour of West Berkshire and Oxfordshire centred around the Ridgeway. The Hike took them from Purley near Reading all the way up the Ridgeway to East Hendred round a loop to East Ilsley and back to Tilehurst. No mean feat as the course was approx 42 miles of hilly terrain. They had to navigate from check point to checkpoint using OS maps. All 4 teams made it round the hike some with more blisters than others and some had been walking non stop for nearly 18hrs. More details can be found at hike.org.uk
Our group had the largest entry from any group in Berkshire and all the groups’ entrants completed the course. During the time on the hike some fascinating figures were calculated….. approx 70000 foot steps taken by each hiker……. they walked solidly for as long as it takes to fly to Singapore and between them they carried 120kg of baggage !!! They must be mad! If you wish to add to the sponsorship raised so for this event, the participants would be very grateful for your support. A big thanks to Liz Penston, Rachael Hill, Julie Dell, Mark Penston, Dave Kilshaw ( yes you did read that correctly), Graham Jones, Vince Knight, Stuart Stanley, Stuart Challacombe, Jez Farthing, Peter Kirwin and Chris Oliver.
