Outdoor Plus Challenge

In May 2009, 6 cubs from Cougar and Jaguar packs planned a visit to the Milestones Museum in Basingstoke for part of their Outdoor Plus Challenge badge. They had to work out the quickest and cheapest route and think about what they would need to take in order to 'be prepared'! Here are some of their reports, and you can also view more photos from the trip here.

In March 2009 we had to plan our meeting. The girls wanted to go to a zoo and the boys wanted to go swimming. In the end we decided to go to Milestones.

On Saturday 16th May 2009, six cubs from Cougar and Jaguar packs went to Milestones Museum with Mary, Mark, Kath and Vince (who was being silly). We went on the train from Mortimer – Basingstoke station and the bus from Basingstoke station – Milestones. When we got there we split up into pairs. I went with Emily, Sophie went with Emilia and Tom A went with Tom H. We called them the Tomtoms!!!

At quarter to one, we went into a Victorian school where we learned some things that the Victorian children would’ve learned. Our teacher was called Miss Fidget and when Emilia and Sophie heard her name they started giggling but they got told off. Emily and I wanted to giggle but we didn’t dare.

At one o’clock, we came out of the school. We went to have lunch in a lunch room. At half one everyone had finished lunch so we went to buy our ration cards.

At quarter to two we were all lining up outside the 1930s sweetshop. I chose sherbet fishes which I had to suck. Then we went to the gift shop were I bought a notepad and pen, a rubber and a sharpener.

On the way back we caught the bus and the train. We were glad we were home but we had a great day. I would like to tell any cubs who are doing this in the future, that it is a really good idea. You need to plan what you are going to bring and the times of trains and buses.

My favourite bits were when Vince was pretending to be a statue and when we dressed up in Victorian clothes. Thank you to all the leaders who helped and came with us because they made it fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
