The Legendary Adventure Weekend... April 2009
In a land of myth and a time of magic, the destiny of a great kingdom rests on the shoulders of some young squires.
Knights of Camelot Camp
A weekend of Grail Quests, Jousting, Archery and more...
Friday
On April 3rd, thirty nine cubs from all three cub packs arrived at
Chalfont Heights Scout Camp to begin the adventure! Under the guidance
of Prince Casper, the young
squires
were put into groups with a trusty knight leading each - Sir Lancelot,
Sir Galahad, Sir Gawain, Sir Bedivere, Sir Percival and Sir Accolon.
Lord Tybalt was on hand to assist and Baron Forthwind and Lady Gloriana
arrived as chefs from the King's own court.
The first challenge of the weekend was set by King Arthur – a quest to find the Holy Grail. Each group of squires had to find a knight, complete a challenge and rearrange the clues to lead them to the Holy Grail. Once found, however, they were disappointed to learn that it was fake and that The Black Knight was close at hand. The squires heard the legend of The Black Knight but this lead to more questions.
In the evening, when the squires had gone to bed, the Knights were very busy!
Saturday
The day began with Physical Training for the squires. For the rest of
the day, the squires had to test their skills in archery,
show their courage underground in the
dark and use their physical strength over many obstacles.
They had to work as a team and build a
castle that they could all fit into. Of course, a squire has to be
dressed appropriately and so they made tabards
in their knight’s colours, helmets, shields and swords. As
evening
approached, the time came for The
Grand Banquet. We were very fortunate to be graced with the presence
of King Arthur for our feast.
After this, Merlin had sent his eagle with a test for the young squires to help identify The Black Knight. Unfortunately this clue was rather cryptic and the young squires were left none the wiser.
The evening ended under star-lit skies with a rousing campfire.
Sunday
The young squires found it difficult to wake up this morning but with the prospect of a Tournament, energy was soon restored!
The squires were attired in all their finery and the tournament
began. The teams competed in jousting and maces and Sir Gawain’s squires
emerged as overall winners.

After lunch, King Arthur had sent word of the identity of The Black Knight but unfortunately the message was dropped in seven parts and the squires had to work together to find the pieces, unscramble them, put them together with the other sets of clues and finally identify the Black Knight who was amongst us.

Fortunately, the Black Knight had in fact been trying to help us all weekend but The Holy Grail was still illusive.
The camp ended in a Knights’ Own where the squires were presented with their certificates, appointing them as Knights of Camelot, and their coat of arms.
The adventure had ended……… for the time being!!!!!!!
