We hope to have a comprehensive report of this fantastic event for you
to read about in the next few days. In the meantime, here are some
general facts about Cubjam 2009. You can also click here
to view our pictures from the camp or visit the Cubjam
Website where you will find lots of info contributed from the cub
packs up and down the country who attended. There is also an online shop
where you can purchase those souvenirs you didn't manage to get while
you were there.
* Nearly 1500 Cubs (boys and girls aged 8-10.5), Leaders and Support
Crew took part.
* Contingents attended from as far apart as Guernsey, Wales and Yorkshire
* One of the aims of CubJam is to encourage Cub Scouts to meet others
from across the country, and understand what friendship and adventure
scouting can lead to.
* During the week long event all Cubs enjoyed a day at Colchester Zoo
and another at Chessington World of Adventures.
* The theme this time was Carnival so the 3 camping areas were
appropriately named “New Orleans”, “Notting Hill” and “Rio”
* Activities on offer ranged from modern (such as circus skills or
taking to the stage in “Cubjam's Got Talent) to traditional scouting
(from archery to climbing)
* Families could tune in to all the fun taking place through CubJam FM
Reports
I had a GREAT time at Cubjam! Where else can you spend 6 days and do SOOOOOOO many activities?! – Rifles, Climbing, revolving climbing wall, archery, aeroball, swimming, low ropes and 3G swing. I couldn’t forget our trips to Chessington and Colchester Zoo!!!!!!! I met lots of cubs from different packs, I’ve already sent 2 emails since being back home and had a response from one of them. Sharon – the badges I handed back, I need them back please (to send to my friends). And finally, a
BIG
Thank you, to all the leaers for looking after me so well. The
biggest challenge was being away from my family for 6 days. But I’m
happy that I did it! It wasn’t as bad as I thought, and now I’d go away
again with more confidence. I will always remember my time at Cubjam.
Kind regards,
Charlotte E
I had a nice time at cubjam and I liked the radio station because you went into studio and were interviewed and Daddy was able to hear us on the radio back at the tents.
We went to Colchester and Chessington. I liked Chessington because it had a scary ride in it and I enjoyed it a lot. At Colchester Zoo there was a Giraffe about 2 metres away from us but his neck was right by us, we also saw some small monkeys who were all from Africa. I got to hold a giant snail and a giant stick insect.
I also went on the 3G swing with Charlotte E and it went up and you pulled a blue rope and from right up high, it dropped and swung like a normal swing.
I had a nice time at cubjam it was fantastic

Cubjam was brilliant. I really enjoyed the rifle shooting and I got a bulls eye! I got to fire a .22 air rifle!!! The pedal cars were really really fun because the track was difficult so it was a challenge! The swimming I also enjoyed, though the pool was freezing. The zoo and Chessington were brilliant. At Chessington, the rides were very fast ad scary! Vampire ride's queue was a bit annoying because there was a shop in the queue's path, making people stop to buy things and waste time. We only managed to fit two rides in because the queues were really long.
I liked the zoo best of all because the animals were very charming. For instance the white tiger was very handsome. Also I thought it was wierd feeding the elephants. They pick bread or fruit out of your hands with their trunks and then eat what is in their trunks. Their skin is like sandpaper - its really rough. The aqua-zoo was amazing. The seals swam over your head and around you when you were walking through a glass tube in the seal pool. The penguins were surprisingly quick and funny.
The camp fire was also nice because everyone got together around one small fire. We sang songs like we usually do but unusually, we got four glow sticks each and four connectors. We waved them around in the dark.
It was challenging sharing a tent for 6 nights with other people as we all have our own ways of going to bed and getting up. I found it challenging because it was either one person who let us down or another when we were trying to keep the tent tidy and to keep our behaviour reasonable. It never was all three of us at the same time that left the tent untidy.
One of the things that I liked in our contingent only was the food. It was tasty and I enjoyed every bit of it (except for the spagetti!!!!)
Altogether, it was fun going out and being my own responsibility.
Thank you to all the people who helped with it. Thank you for all the stuff they organised and did for us.

Cubjam was fantastic. It started with the opening ceremony where we saw a live band. During the week we were able to do lots and lots of activities. I had a go at Go Karting, Climbing a rock face and a revolving wall, swimming, low ropes, face painting, badge swapping, and watch a magic show.
During the week I made new friends with cubs from other packs. So if they are reading, Hi to Cody, Charlotte and Claire.
On Tuesday we went to Chessington World of Adventure. The fastest and best roller coaster was the Vampire Ride, it was wicked. The slowest and calmest ride was Bubble Works, it was lovely.
On Wednesday we went to Colchester Zoo. My favorite animal was a wolf, the scariest animal was a crocodile, and the funniest animal was a chimpanzee.
I would like to thank all the people that help organise and run the event, especially all the leaders and all the helpers of 1st Burghfield 210 Notting Hill contingency.
P.S. Can we do it again soon please?

My up's and down's at Cubjam by Abby Ryan
Hmmm well I'll start with the up's...
Well the bouncy castle was fun,
3G swing was awesome,
Archery was cool,
Revolving wall was really good,
Aero ball was so good,
The food was fab,
Colchester zoo and Chesington rocked,
The tents were cosy with everybody in it,
The campfire was warm as well !
Now the down's...
Well some people from Rio were a bit mean,
I didn't like it when my tent flooded,
I missed my parents,
The swimming pool and pool shower was freezing!
But over all Cubjam ROCKED!
I just ignored the mean people from Rio.
I over came missing my parents by just trying to forget about it and have fun!

It was the best time I have bean with the cubs. And Paul’s cooking was great. The grass sledging was brilliant fun. The cubjam badge you gave us at the end is on my uniform.
