1st Burghfield & Sulhamstead Cubs

Welcome to the Cub section.

We have three Cub packs - Cougar, Jaguar and Panther. The packs are open to boys and girls aged 8 to 10½ years.

The emphasis is on enjoyment, adventure and FUN! The cub section is based on 'The Jungle Book' and Akela is in charge! The meetings begin and end with Grand Howl which is when the cubs promise Akela that they WILL do their best! The cubs are grouped in 'sixes' named after a colour and wear the appropriate woggle to denote this. Each six is lead by a sixer who is assisted by a seconder who help the leaders to run the pack. The cubs usually work in their sixes but sometimes they work in age related groups or groups of their choosing or individually.

The uniform consists of a cub sweatshirt and neckerchief. Click here for information about the position of badges on the Cub uniform.

The cubs take part in a variety of activities as part of the six zones of Belief and Attitudes, Community, Fitness, Creative, Global, Outdoor and Adventure. By doing this, the cubs work towards their Challenge badges which lead to the highest award in the Cub Scouting section – the Chief Scout's Silver Award.

They are also many activity badges to work towards. Sometimes cubs complete all or part of a badge during pack meetings, however, many cubs like to work on these at home. There is also a cub handbook called Powerpack where the cubs can keep a record of their achievements. For more information about cubs, visit Cub Island.

All cubs have the chance to go away either camping in Patrol tents in the summer or indoors at other times of the year. Indeed, for many, this is the highlight of the year! It gives them a chance to gain independance and to participate in activities which we cannot do in a pack meeting.
